Clymenza Hawkins – Photocollage Images

nieuw haven, Harlem

The architecture of Harlem inspired me to make photographs of doorways from brownstones and apartment buildings to assemble “familiar” images of natural havens. From Sugar Hill to Malcolm X Boulevard, these havens reveal the beauty of solitude within a community during the urban renewal of Harlem. Many of it’s buildings remain while the rest of them do not exist anymore.
